Guwahati, 09 February (HS): Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, on Monday flagged off a new passenger train service between Sairang and Silchar through video conferencing. On the occasion, he also inaugurated new passenger amenities at Guwahati Railway Station. The initiative is expected to give a significant boost to inter-state connectivity while enhancing comfort, convenience, and care for railway passengers.

The programme at Sairang Railway Station was attended by Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma. The new rail service is being described as another historic milestone in strengthening rail connectivity to the capital region of Mizoram. Assam MP Parimal Suklabaidya and Rajya Sabha MP Kanad Purkayastha joined the event virtually, while senior railway officials and other dignitaries were present at both Sairang and Guwahati railway stations.

At Guwahati Railway Station, new passenger facilities have been developed at a prominent location. These include an air-conditioned lounge, improved lighting and ventilation, charging points, secure sleeping pods and a dedicated restroom for women. A limited multi-cuisine catering service for paid users has also been introduced. The facilities reflect Indian Railways’ vision of world-class station infrastructure and an enhanced passenger experience through integrated service design. ------
