New Delhi, 09 February (H.S.): The Railway Ministry approved two critical infrastructure projects worth ₹421.41 crore on Monday to modernize signaling systems under Northern Railway, targeting High Density Network (HDN) and Highly Used Network (HUN) routes for enhanced safety and operational efficiency.
The initiatives install advanced Electronic Interlocking (EI) systems at 34 stations across Delhi (21 stations, ₹292.24 crore) and Ambala (13 stations, ₹129.17 crore) divisions—complementing indigenous automatic train protection system KAVACH already sanctioned for these locations.
Coordinating modern signaling with KAVACH technology ensures secure, seamless, high-capacity operations on congested corridors.
Both projects fall under Northern Railway's ₹1,547 crore sub-umbrella works within Pink Book 2024-25's major umbrella sanction via Works, Machinery, and Rolling Stock Programme.
Computerized EI automates signal and point operations versus mechanical predecessors, minimizing human error for reliable train movements.
KAVACH-integrated EI propels Northern Railway toward a robust, error-free infrastructure prioritizing passenger safety while accommodating escalating traffic demands.
