Kolkata, 01 February (H.S.) :
YouTuber Sayak Chakraborty, who had alleged that he was served beef instead of goat meat at a popular Park Street restaurant, has now landed in legal trouble after a counter-complaint was filed against him.
Police said a man identified as Joyraj Bhattacharjee lodged a formal complaint against Chakraborty at Park Street Police Station on Saturday night. In his complaint, Bhattacharjee accused the YouTuber of attempting to incite public unrest by allegedly conspiring to provoke communal tension. He later shared on social media that the complaint was filed directly with the police and not on any online platform.
Earlier, Kolkata Police had arrested an employee of the bar-cum-restaurant located in the Park Street area for allegedly serving beef instead of goat meat to Chakraborty. The arrest followed a complaint filed by the YouTuber on Friday night. A case was registered against the accused waiter, identified as Sheikh Nasiruddin, under Section two nine nine of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, which deals with deliberately hurting religious sentiments. When produced before a court, the accused was denied bail.
According to Chakraborty’s complaint, he had visited the restaurant on Friday night along with two friends and ordered a plate of mutton steak. He alleged that beef was served instead of goat meat. Following the incident, Chakraborty uploaded a video on social media showing his argument with the waiter and the restaurant manager. The video quickly went viral.
In the video, Chakraborty claimed that the dish served to him was different from what was ordered. While many social media users described the incident as unfortunate, several others questioned the manner in which the issue was handled publicly.
Amid the controversy, one of the two friends who accompanied Chakraborty clarified his stand on social media, stating that while he did mention being served a different dish, he did not intend to give any religious or communal provocation.
