Chennai, 29 January (H.S.) : Former Governor and senior BJP leader TAMILISAI SOUNDARAJAN on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the DMK-led state government, citing a gruesome triple murder in Chennai as evidence of deteriorating law and order.
Addressing the media, the BJP leader claimed that the state is currently witnessing a period of lawlessness and a social calamity that has created a deep sense of insecurity and panic among the general public. She specifically highlighted that the brutal killings occurred in the heart of the city, indicating that criminals no longer fear the administrative machinery under the current regime.
The case pertains to the horrific discovery of 24-year-old GAURAV KUMAR’s body, which was found stuffed in a gunny bag with severe head injuries in Indira Nagar, Adyar, on Monday. Subsequent investigations led to the recovery of his two-year-old son’s body from the banks of the Cooum River near Madhya Kailash on Wednesday.
Multiple police teams are still conducting intensive search operations at the Perungudi dumpyard and Adyar estuary to locate the body of the victim's missing wife, MUNITA KUMARI, who is also feared dead.
TAMILISAI SOUNDARAJAN urged Chief Minister MK STALIN to take a more serious approach toward public safety and the rising incidence of drug abuse, which she linked to the surge in violent crimes.
Meanwhile, the Chennai Police have arrested five migrant workers from Bihar, identified as SIKANDAR, NARENDER KUMAR, RABINDRANATH TAGORE, BIKAS, and another individual, in connection with the murders.
Authorities suspect the victims were killed by acquaintances over a personal dispute, and further investigations are underway to confirm if the woman was sexually assaulted before the crime.
