
Hooghly, 20 January (H.S.): A special environmental education programme was successfully organized on Tuesday at Bandel Mahatma Gandhi Hindi School, under the aegis of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, with the aim of raising awareness among children and youth about environmental protection.
Under this programme, various educational activities, including workshops, exhibitions, and nature camps, were organized to familiarize students with various environmental issues. Through these activities, students gained practical knowledge along with formal education. The students also pledged to internalize the messages of 'Mission LiFE' and spread them to their homes and communities.
A quiz competition and an extempore speech competition based on facts related to 'Mission LiFE' were organized at the school to promote critical thinking and public speaking skills among the students. At the end of the programme, students who performed exceptionally well were awarded prizes.
The school's headmaster, Vijay Kumar Prasad, expressed his gratitude to Samanjit Sengupta, the nodal officer of the West Bengal Pollution Control Board, for making such programmes an integral part of the school. He said that such programmes will reshape the collective approach towards sustainability in society in the future and will also play a significant role in the life skills development of the students. This will develop critical and creative thinking in children and enable them to cope with challenges like climate change.
Nodal teachers Dharmendra Kumar Singh, Mrinal Kanti Das, Parvati Mishra, Sangeeta Jaiswara, Sangeeta Das, Shravani Halder, and Sangeeta Singh played a significant role in making the programme a success.
