Nagpur, 02 Jan

(HS): As per the preliminary reports as many as 65 candidates in the municipal

corporation elections came victorious unopposed. Out of the 65 unopposed

elected, 64 are from the Mega Alliance (Mahayuti) of Bharatiya Janata Party,

Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) and Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar).

Polling in 29

municipal corporations are scheduled for January 15 and the counting of votes

on January 16. January 2 was the last date for withdrawal of nominations. BJP

and Shiv Sena leaders were able to convince candidates other than their

official ones, to withdraw their nominations.

BJP is way ahead

in getting their candidates’ election without any contest. BJP is followed by

Shiv Sena. Only one candidate who had filed nomination as an independent was

elected unopposed. The picture elsewhere

will be clear on Wednesday, with the release of official release of the

candidates in fray.
