(HS): As per the preliminary reports as many as 65 candidates in the municipal
corporation elections came victorious unopposed. Out of the 65 unopposed
elected, 64 are from the Mega Alliance (Mahayuti) of Bharatiya Janata Party,
Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) and Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar).
Polling in 29
municipal corporations are scheduled for January 15 and the counting of votes
on January 16. January 2 was the last date for withdrawal of nominations. BJP
and Shiv Sena leaders were able to convince candidates other than their
official ones, to withdraw their nominations.
BJP is way ahead
in getting their candidates’ election without any contest. BJP is followed by
Shiv Sena. Only one candidate who had filed nomination as an independent was
elected unopposed. The picture elsewhere
will be clear on Wednesday, with the release of official release of the
candidates in fray.
