New Delhi, August 4(HS): On the fourth day of the final Test between India and England at The Oval, Joe Root scored his 39th Test century in 137 balls, surpassing Kumar Sangakkara's 38 centuries to rank fourth in Test history. Ahead of him are Sachin Tendulkar (51), Jacques Kallis (45), and Ricky Ponting (41).

Additionally, Root became the first batsman to reach 6,000 runs in World Test Championship history. With over 13,500 Test runs, he is second on the all-time list, closing in on Tendulkar’s record of 15,921 runs.
