Guwahati, 25 July (HS): Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday laid the foundation stone of the minister's office, a convention center and office buildings of the Chief Secretary and Additional Chief Secretary near the Chief Minister's Secretariat at Paltan Bazar in Maijan, Dibrugarh.

The state government has described this administrative complex, to be built at a cost of about ₹65 crore, as an important step towards bringing governance closer to the general public in Upper Assam. The Chief Minister said that this project is part of the government's comprehensive vision to develop Dibrugarh as the second capital of the state.

He informed that the proposed minister's office will have 20 office rooms and 10 residential units. The convention center will have a capacity of 350 people, while the conference hall adjoining it will be able to accommodate 120 people. The office building of the Chief Secretary and Additional Chief Secretary will be built in ground-plus-one structure, which will have officers' cabins, an establishment office room, meeting room, car porch and other necessary facilities.

The Chief Minister also said that this initiative has been taken with the aim of providing better administrative services to the people of Upper Assam and promoting people-centric development.

Industry and Commerce Minister Bimal Bora, Medical Education and Research Minister Prashant Phukan, Transport Minister Jogen Mohan, several MLAs, Additional Chief Secretary Ajay Tiwari and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
