Birbhum, 26 July (H.S.): The historic campus of Visva-Bharati University in Santiniketan is set to reopen to the public and tourists after a five-year hiatus. Beginning Sunday, August 3, 2025, the university will launch organized “Heritage Walks” through its iconic grounds. The announcement was officially made through a press release issued by the university’s acting Public Relations Officer, Atig Ghosh.
University Vice-Chancellor Professor Prabir Kumar Ghosh had previously stated that reopening the campus to visitors was one of his top priorities. Preparations for the heritage walk began in March this year, and a successful trial was conducted past Wednesday. Following the success of the trial, the university administration has decided to open the campus to the public.
According to the press release, the Heritage Walks will be held every Sunday and will take visitors through Santiniketan’s core heritage areas, guided by trained professionals. Ticket prices have been categorized based on the type of visitor. A separate fee will be charged for entry to Rabindra Bhavan, which can be accessed with or without a guide. Tickets will be available at the Rabindra Bhavan Museum counter, and online booking is expected to begin between November and December.
The university has chosen August 3 as the starting date, taking into account current weather conditions. To ensure visitor comfort and safety, ambulance services and disaster management measures will be in place during the walks.
