Golaghat (Assam), 26 July (HS): Amid the ongoing eviction drive in the Negheribil area, the Khilanjiya (indigenous) Muslim community of Merapani has taken a firm stand against providing shelter to the evicted families. The managing committees of the Jama Masjids of Merapani and Islampur jointly issued a press statement declaring that families removed from Negheribil will not be allowed to settle in their villages under any circumstances.
The mosque committees clearly stated that those evicted would neither be permitted to purchase land nor rent houses in Merapani or Islampur. They welcomed the state government's eviction drive and extended full support to the drive against encroachment.
The committees have informed every household in the villages about this decision to avoid any confusion. Residents of both villages have been urged to strictly adhere to this resolution and ensure that no evicted encroacher is allowed to settle.
It is noteworthy that the administration is making full preparations to carry out evictions in Negheribil’s 2 No. village. There is concern among locals that the displaced families may attempt to relocate to nearby villages like Merapani and Islampur, prompting this strong warning from the community.
