Dhubri (Assam), 1 July (HS): BJP has imposed an undeclared ban on the entry of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi in Dhubri district after the alleged bottle throwing incident on the convoy of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

On Tuesday, hundreds of BJP workers demonstrated in the Panch Mor area of Dhubri and demanded a public apology from Gaurav Gogoi. The protesters called it an insult to democracy and insult to the constitutional head of the state.

Cabinet Minister Ranjit Kumar Das led the protest and said bluntly from the stage - Until Gaurav Gogoi publicly apologizes for this shameful incident, BJP will not allow him to enter Dhubri.

The exact information about the incident has not yet been revealed as to who threw the bottle, but BJP leaders directly blamed Gaurav Gogoi for this and accused him of promoting political extremism.

Raising slogans like “Gaurav Gogoi murdabad”, “Congress ki gundagardi nahi chalegi” (Congress hooliganism will not be tolerated), the activists gathered under heavy police security. The protest remained peaceful but the BJP warned, “This is just the beginning. If the people are not apologised to, the agitation will intensify.”

Minister Das said the matter was not just a personal insult to the chief minister but a “direct attack on the democratic norms of Assam.”

The Congress, however, called the entire incident a “political drama” and said the BJP was trying to divert attention from real issues. Nevertheless, the BJP has projected the incident as proof of the Congress’ “political hooliganism”.

Security forces were deployed during the protest and no untoward incident took place. But the BJP made it clear that its campaign demanding political decorum and accountability will continue.
