Hardoi,
03 May (HS): Two constables stationed at Pihani police station in Uttar
Pradesh's Hardoi district have been suspended and charged for allegedly
misbehaving with a local melon vendor and refusing to pay for the fruit they
devoured, officials announced on Saturday. The move comes after Superintendent
of Police Neeraj Kumar Jadaun launched an investigation and spoke with the
seller on Friday night, assuring him of justice.
According
to police, the street seller Lakhpat, a Pihani local, makes his living by
selling melons from a pushcart. He said
that constables Ankit Kumar and Anuj Kumar ate melons worth Rs 20 from him on
Friday but, when pressed for payment, harassed and threatened him. Following
Lakhpat's report to the Superintendent of Police (SP), an investigation was
launched under the supervision of Circle Officer Hariyawan.
According
to the investigation findings, the claims were believable. According to the findings, both constables
were immediately suspended, and a FIR was filed against them at the Pihani police
station, said SP Jadaun. He also went to the Pihani police station and spoke
with the complainant to get firsthand information about the occurrence.
Uniformed
workers are required to follow the law and be accountable. Misconduct of this
sort will not be condoned, Jadaun warned, adding that any cop discovered
to be misbehaving in public will face disciplinary action. He stated that a FIR
was filed based on Lakhpat's written complaint under the relevant sections of
the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
