Chennai, 19 March (H.S.): Tamil Nadu Electricity and Prohibition Minister V Senthil Balaji has questioned the basis of the recent raids on the state-owned Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited (TASMAC), alleging irregularities.
The minister's inquiry comes amidst accusations of a massive scam involving TASMAC, with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) uncovering documents linked to the generation of unaccounted cash worth Rs 1,000 crores.
The ED raids, conducted on March 6, 2025, targeted various premises across Tamil Nadu, seizing incriminating documents related to TASMAC and its associated entities. The opposition parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), have been vocal in their criticism of the DMK government's handling of TASMAC.
Minister Senthil Balaji has defended the government, claiming that the raids were motivated by the opposition's inability to bear the achievements of the DMK government. The minister has also emphasized that TASMAC's operations are transparent, with no room for malpractices.
The controversy surrounding TASMAC has sparked a heated debate, with the opposition demanding the resignation of the DMK government. The AIADMK has alleged that the scam could be worth over Rs 40,000 crores. The issue is likely to continue to simmer, with the ED's investigation ongoing.
