Chennai, 19 March (H.S.) : DMK MP, TKS Elangovan, has appealed to the Centre to expedite the implementation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious North-South River Linking project, which aims to connect the Ken and Betwa rivers.

The project, launched in December 2024, is part of India's National River Linking Project (NRLP) and is expected to provide irrigation, drinking water, and hydroelectric power to several districts in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

Elangovan emphasized the importance of the project, stating that it would greatly benefit the people of Tamil Nadu and other southern states. He urged the Centre to prioritize the project and allocate necessary funds to ensure its timely completion.

The Ken-Betwa River Linking project is expected to be completed by 2030 and will cost approximately ₹44,605 crore. The project has been hailed as a significant step towards addressing the water scarcity issues in the Bundelkhand region.

With the DMK MP's appeal, the Centre is expected to take immediate action to expedite the project's implementation, bringing relief to millions of people in the region.
