Udhampur, 19 March (H.S.): Jal Shakti (PHE) Employees & Workers Association, District Udhampur held a strong protest at PHE Complex, Udhampur under the chairmanship of Som Nath, district president and senior Trade Union leader of Jammu province.
The employees/ workers drawn from Kaghote, Ramnagar, Kulwanta, Majalta, Majouri, Mansar, Khoon, Chenani, Kud, Patnitop, Sudhmahadev, Panchari, Mongri, Tikri, Jib Thathi, Garhi- Rehambal and far flung areas of district Udhampur participated in the protest rally. The employees were shouting slogans in favour of their demands.
Trade Union leader Som Nath while addressing the rally said that daily wagers were hopeful that the newly elected NC Govt will solve the issues of daily wagers on priority. But no provision of any issue of daily wagers was kept in Budget session till date. The Govt gave the clear message of delibetarely ignoring the demands of daily wagers.
The Association fully supported the PHE United Front call for Pani Band for 72 hours. Som Nath appealed to all the DRWs to remain united. The Govt constituted a five member committee to totally befooling the daily wagers. For pending wages 2014 to 2020 (70 months) and Minimum Wages Act, there is no role of any committee but the Government ignored that too.
The main demands of the PHE employees included- regularization of CP/ITI/ land case workers; release of pending wages of the employees; implement Minimum Wages Act, and remove shortage of staff.
Som Nath appealed to the workers of the UT to unite for the cause of the workers and support 72- hour Pani Band strike. For any inconvenience to the public, the UT Govt will be responsible, he added.
Senior members- Karan Singh, Shambu Nath, Onkar Singh, Parveen, Javed, Vijay Kumar, Mohan Singh, Sanjay Kumar, Liaquat Ali and Tilak Raj Katoch also spoke on the occasion.
