Srinagar, 19 March (H.S.): Firing practice had long been an unfulfilled aspiration for the NCC cadets of the Kashmir region due to the lack of firing ranges in Srinagar. However, under the initiative of Maj Gen Anupinder Bevli, VSM, Additional Director General, NCC Directorate Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh, permission was granted by 31 Sub Area and Chinar Corps to conduct firing at Haft Chinar Short Range. This significant development has provided an invaluable opportunity for NCC cadets to hone their marksmanship skills and will shape the future of Kashmir’s youth.
Approximately 120 cadets from 1 J&K Battalion NCC and 1 J&K Naval Unit, comprising both boys and girls, participated in the firing exercise over two days on March 17 and 18, 2025. Under the expert supervision of Army instructors, the cadets refined their shooting skills by mastering essential techniques such as aiming, breath control, and trigger operation.
The training was meticulously organized by NCC Group Srinagar, with seamless coordination among various NCC battalions and institutions. The Group Commander visited the firing range to oversee the training and engaged with the cadets, imparting valuable insights into marksmanship. He emphasised the importance of adhering to the prescribed range safety procedures to ensure a safe and effective training experience.
Maj Gen Anupinder Bevli, VSM, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the General Officer Commanding, 31 Sub Area, and Chinar Corps for making this long-awaited opportunity a reality. Their support has significantly contributed to the empowerment and skill development of NCC cadets in the region.
Outstanding performers from the training were shortlisted to represent the JK&L Directorate at forthcoming All India-level competitions. Meanwhile, cadets who need improvement have been provided with additional coaching to enhance their firing proficiency.
This initiative marks a pivotal step in providing practical and high-quality training to NCC cadets, reinforcing discipline, skill development, and a sense of national pride among the youth of Kashmir.
