Ayan Seal's Bail Plea Rejected in Recruitment Scam, Calcutta High Court Upholds CBI's Argument

Kolkata, 19 March (H.S.) -The Calcutta High Court has rejected the bail plea of Ayan Seal, who was arrested in connection with the municipal recruitment scam. The court upheld the arguments presented by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against his release.

Ayan Seal had sought bail from the High Court, but during Wednesday’s hearing, the CBI opposed the plea. The agency informed the court that recruitment scams have been reported in 17 municipalities across West Bengal, but only one municipality’s investigation has been completed so far. Moreover, a charge sheet is yet to be filed in the case. Given these circumstances, the CBI argued that granting bail to Ayan Seal would not be appropriate.

Accepting the CBI's argument, the division bench of the Calcutta High Court, comprising Justice Debanshu Basak and Justice Smita Das, dismissed Ayan Seal’s bail plea.

Ayan Seal was first arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the school recruitment scam. During the investigation, multiple OMR sheets were recovered from his Salt Lake residence, which exposed irregularities in the recruitment process. Notably, Ayan Seal's company was responsible for handling OMR sheets in municipal recruitment procedures.
