International Seminar on Advances in Marine Renewable Energy Held at National Institute of Marine Resources Technology


Chennai, 17 March (H.S.): A two-day international seminar on Advances in Marine Renewable Energy commenced today at the National Institute of Marine Resources Technology, Chennai. The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. Vijay Kumar Saraswat, Member of NITI Aayog and a renowned scientist in the field of defense.

According to PIB Chennai ,the seminar brings together students, researchers, policymakers, and experts from India and around the world to discuss the latest advancements and challenges in marine renewable energy. The event is being held from March 17-18, 2025, at the National Institute of Marine Resources Technology, under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India.

During the inauguration, Dr. Saraswat presented innovative technologies, including sea-burning lanthanum lamps and a floating guidance system, to Kamaraj Port and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep administrations.

In his address, Dr. Saraswat emphasized India's vast coastline and Special Economic Zones, which play a crucial role in the country's blue economy. He highlighted India's potential to generate 54 GW of ocean power, including 12.4 GW of wave power, and the sector's expected growth rate of 22.8% during 2023-2032.

The seminar features technical sessions, panel discussions, and presentations on various topics, including wave and wind power generation, ocean thermal energy, and standardization and commercialization.
