Punjab Assembly session on VB-G RAM G unconstitutional: BJP

Chandigarh, 30 December (HS): The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday termed the special Assembly session convened by the Punjab government against the VB-G RAM G Act as unconstitutional and against the federal structure of the country.

BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh said matters related to employment guarantees and centrally funded welfare schemes fall within the legislative domain of Parliament and not state legislatures. He alleged that calling a special session on the issue amounted to overstepping constitutional limits.

Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar also criticised the move, alleging that the ruling party in the state was attempting to divert attention from its failures. He said the session was aimed at creating political confrontation between the Centre and the state rather than addressing governance issues.

The BJP leaders said such actions weaken cooperative federalism and undermine constitutional norms.
