New Delhi, 30 December (HS): The Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday reiterated its allegation that the Delhi government is planning to assign government school teachers the task of counting stray dogs in the capital, citing an order issued by the Directorate of Education on November 20.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, AAP spokesperson Sanjeev Jha alleged that the order directs teachers to carry out a stray dog census, which he termed an insult to the teaching community. He presented copies of the alleged order and related duty lists before the media.
The allegation comes a day after Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood denied the claim and asked the party to substantiate its charges with evidence.
Responding to the denial, Jha said the party had brought documentary proof of the November 20 order issued by the Directorate of Education, which, according to him, assigns teachers duties related to counting stray dogs.
He said that during the previous AAP government, teachers were not assigned non-academic duties and were instead supported through initiatives such as overseas training programmes. He alleged that the present government was deviating from that approach by assigning tasks unrelated to teaching.
The Delhi government has not issued any fresh response to the allegations following the press conference.
