East Medinipur, 30 December (H.S.): An elderly man committed suicide in Ramnagar area of East Medinipur district on Tuesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as 75-year-old Bimal Shil. He was a resident of Sadi area under Ramnagar-1 block, within the jurisdiction of Ramnagar police station. On Monday evening, Bimal Shil left his house as usual and returned home after buying a cake from his neighbor Gaurishankar Shil's betel leaf shop. After having dinner, he went to sleep.

As per information, Bimal Shil used to wake up early every morning and exercise, but on Tuesday morning, when he did not come out for a long time, his wife became worried. Upon searching, his body was found hanging in a room on the roof.

A neighbor said that Bimal Shil's name was not included in the 2002 SIR list, which caused him considerable anxiety. He had received a notice for an SIR hearing on January 2nd. For the past four or five days, he had been constantly running around trying to gather documents. His son was also busy collecting the necessary papers. According to the neighbor, Bimal Shil repeatedly asked if his documents were in order and would say, I don't know what will happen to me.

The deceased's son, Deepak Shil, said that his father had been deeply depressed since receiving the SIR notice, and it is suspected that he took this drastic step due to this mental pressure.

Atish Biswas, Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural), Kanthi, said that a case of unnatural death has been registered in this matter. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and the police are investigating the entire incident.
