Guwahati, 30 December (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday distributed initial seed capital cheques under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA) at two public programmes held in the Manas and Sorbhog–Bhawanipur Assembly constituencies, marking a major push towards women-led economic empowerment in the state.

The Chief Minister said the initiative aims to ensure a stronger and brighter future by enabling women to grow as entrepreneurs across all sectors, while positioning women as a key driver of Assam’s overall development. He described the programme as a strong and effective implementation of the state government’s commitment to accelerate inclusive growth through women empowerment.

A total of 55,894 women received ₹10,000 each as seed funding, providing a foundation for entrepreneurial activities and self-reliance. Dr Sarma said the MMUA movement is gaining momentum, with women entrepreneurs across Assam increasingly embracing financial independence and enterprise.

Highlighting the government’s long-term vision, the Chief Minister said the programme is a step towards creating 40 lakh “Lakhpati Baideus” in the state. He added that unlike previous governments, which only made promises, the present government is delivering tangible support through seed funding, future credit linkage and sustained institutional backing.

Dr Sarma asserted that Assam’s Nari Shakti is now being empowered with real opportunities, ensuring their continued progress towards economic stability and a brighter future.---------
