BJP TN Chief Claims DMK is Only Confronting Centre, Failing to Benefit People

Chennai, 17 December (H.S.) : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tamil Nadu unit has accused the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government of jeopardising a major infrastructure initiative due to financial constraints. In a recent social media post, the BJP highlighted concerns that the ₹3,100 crore elevated corridor project connecting Kilambakkam bus terminus to Mahindra City along the GST Road is at risk of cancellation.

Tamilnadu BJP has expressed views on 17th Sec., 2025 on X handle(https://x.com/BJP4TamilNadu/status/2001242216790982892?s=20) and stated,The @arivalayam government, showing negligence in land allocation for railway projects, has stalled numerous railway projects. Now, it has pushed the ₹3,100 crore Clambakkam road project into a state of cancellation..!.

According to TN BJP, the 18.4 km elevated expressway, proposed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), aims to alleviate severe traffic congestion on the Grand Southern Trunk Road, a vital artery linking Chennai's southern suburbs to industrial hubs. Estimated costs have ranged from ₹3,200 to ₹3,500 crore in various reports, with provisions for a Bus Rapid Transit System to enhance public mobility.

The BJP alleges that the DMK administration's mounting debt burden has led to the project's precarious status, claiming the state government has endangered its implementation. This criticism aligns with ongoing opposition attacks on Tamil Nadu's fiscal management, where outstanding liabilities exceed ₹8 lakh crore.

Infrastructure experts note that the corridor would significantly reduce travel times and support regional economic growth. As of now, no official statement from the state government confirms cancellation, but delays in approvals and funding have raised questions about its future.
