Kolkata, 17 December (H.S.) : Jadavpur University has received Rs 47 crore for infrastructure development under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA 2.0), bringing relief to the institution and ending prolonged uncertainty over the release of the second instalment.

According to the university administration, the funds have been provided through a joint contribution of the central and state governments, with the Centre contributing 60 percent and the state government 40 percent. The amount has been routed to the university through the state education department. Vice Chancellor Chiranjeeb Bhattacharyya said the release constitutes the second and final instalment of the approved Rs 100 crore project. Earlier, Rs 53 crore had been released as the first instalment in 2019.

A deadline has been fixed for utilisation of the funds, with the university required to spend the entire amount by March 31, the end of the current financial year. The administration has already begun identifying priority areas to ensure timely utilisation.

It may be recalled that in October 2021, then Vice Chancellor Suranjan Das had stated that academic and research activities were being adversely affected due to the delay in release of the second instalment. With the funds now sanctioned, the university expects significant relief.

A senior university official said the proposed plans include the development of an integrated management system to bring academic, administrative and financial operations onto a single platform. In the absence of such a system, several processes are currently handled manually, leading to delays in activities such as publication of results.

The funds may also be used for upgrading laboratories, supporting research projects already submitted by faculty members and initiating scholarship programmes. The university administration believes that amid rising operational requirements and financial pressures, the grant will prove crucial in strengthening the institution’s overall functioning.
