17 Dec (HS): In response to starred question number 193 in the Lok Sabha by
Prayagraj MP Ujjwal Raman Singh, the central government ruled out the
possibility of a new AIIMS in Prayagraj and said that an upgrade of Rs. 150
crore has been approved for Motilal Nehru Medical College. MP representative
Vinay Kushwaha informed that the Central Government has rejected proposal of MP
Ujjwal Raman Singh to establish a new All India Institute of Medical Sciences
(AIIMS) in Prayagraj under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana and said
that till now 22 AIIMS have been approved for establishment across the country,
out of which two AIIMS located in Rae Bareli and Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh are
already functional.
Motilal
Nehru Medical College to get super-specialty block: In a move that MP Ujjwal
Raman Singh has consistently demanded for an AIIMS, the government has
confirmed a significant upgrade to the city's Motilal Nehru Medical College,
the representative said. This upgrade is being carried out under another
component of the PMSSY scheme.
The
MP representative stated that the upgrade project has been approved at a cost
of Rs. 150 crore, with the central government's share being Rs. 120 crore and
the state's share being Rs. 30 crore. The upgrade will include the
establishment of a 233-bed super specialty block.
This
block will comprise of 7 operation theatres and 8 specialised departments. He
said that this new super specialty block will provide advanced medical services
in the following 8 important departments which will include Cardiothoracic
& Vascular Surgery, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Nephrology, Urology, Plastic
Surgery, Endocrinology, Surgical Oncology etc.
MP
representative Vinay Kushwaha said that MP Ujjwal Raman Singh called the
rejection of the AIIMS proposal by the Central Government unfortunate for
Prayagraj and said that he is not going to give up until AIIMS or a big
hospital equivalent to it comes to Prayagraj.
