AMARAVATI, 16 December (H.S.): YSR Congress Party chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday proclaimed his party's one-crore signature drive against the purported privatisation of government medical colleges a historic and resounding public verdict repudiating the N Chandrababu Naidu-led NDA administration in Andhra Pradesh.
Massive rallies unfolded across all 26 district headquarters on Monday, drawing cadres, students, and diverse citizens who thronged signature stations in a fervent display of opposition.
In a late Monday post on X, Jagan framed the initiative not as a mere anti-privatisation protest but as a resounding rebuke of Naidu's anti-people decisions, underscoring voluntary participation exceeding one crore signatures.
Launched in October amid accusations of the coalition government's fiscal mismanagement, the campaign spotlighted 17 colleges initiated under Jagan's prior tenure—seven operational within three years—to ensure equitable medical access, contrasting with alleged moves to cede them to private entities.
YSRCP plans to consolidate and submit the petitions to the Governor soon, amplifying demands to rescind the policy. This escalation underscores deepening political fault lines, with Jagan decrying the handover of public assets as daylight robbery of affordable healthcare, while the NDA faces mounting scrutiny over its healthcare commitments.
