Chennai, 16 December (H.S.) : The political camp led by former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam (OPS) has intensified speculation regarding the launch of a new political party following a formal change in the name of his current faction.

The ADMK Workers' Rights Retrieval Committee has been renamed the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Workers' Rights Retrieval Kazhagam, with this new title appearing in statements issued by the OPS-led group since December 14.

The name change has led to differing interpretations among his own functionaries:Pro-Party Launch: One section views the inclusion of Kazhagam as a clear sign that OPS is preparing to formally launch a new political party.

Cautious View: Another group downplays the change, calling it a technical modification deemed more appropriate for engaging in alliance and seat-sharing discussions with other parties. They caution that launching an independent party requires substantial organizational and financial strength.

Despite the internal differences, loyalists maintain high expectations. The newly renamed Kazhagam is scheduled to hold a meeting of its functionaries on December 23. Many supporters believe this gathering could precede a major political announcement on December 24, which marks the death anniversary of AIADMK founder M.G. Ramachandran (MGR), a date carrying strong symbolic value.

In parallel, the AIADMK headquarters has seen heightened activity as the party began issuing application forms to aspirants seeking tickets for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Former Minister D. Jayakumar, an AIADMK organizational secretary, reiterated that any decision on readmitting former leaders or functionaries rests solely with the party's top leadership.
