
Bishwanath (Assam), 13 December (HS): A gruesome incident of patricide was reported from the Helem area under Gohpur sub-division, where a son allegedly hacked his father to death with a machete, police informed on Saturday.
The shocking crime took place at Gomiri Nepali Pathar under Helem Police Station limits. The accused, identified as Bhuvan Neupane, allegedly attacked his father Tikaram Neupane, slitting his throat with a sharp weapon, leading to his instant death.
According to sources, Tikaram Neupane was sitting near a fire in a separate kitchen structure located a short distance from the main house when the attack was carried out without any prior altercation. He collapsed on the spot and succumbed to his injuries.
After committing the crime, the accused reportedly appeared at Helem Police Station and confessed to killing his father. Police subsequently took him into custody.
It has been stated that Bhuvan Neupane is the eldest son of the deceased. The accused reportedly told police that his family had broken apart around seven years ago and alleged that his father was responsible for the rift, which he claimed as the motive behind the murder.
Helem Police arrested the accused and sent the body of the deceased for post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, local residents have demanded exemplary punishment for the accused in view of the heinous nature of the crime.---------
