Hydroponic Ganja Worth Rs 23.5 Crore Seized at Chennai Airport

Chennai, 9 October (H.S.) : The Customs officials at Chennai Airport made a significant bust on Wednesday, seizing hydroponic ganja valued at a staggering Rs 23.5 crore. Three individuals, including a woman, were arrested in connection with the smuggling operation.

According to sources, the contraband was cleverly concealed in soft drink powder packets and smuggled from Thailand. The hydroponic ganja is known to be sold under various street names such as OG, sugarcone, and Kush. This seizure highlights the growing concern of drug trafficking in the region, with Tamil Nadu increasingly becoming a key transit hub for international drug syndicates.

The authorities have identified Moreh, a town in Manipur near the India-Myanmar border, as a critical transit hub for drug smuggling. The drug syndicates are known to exploit the porous maritime border between Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka to transport drugs to international markets.

With the price of hydroponic ganja escalating to several crores in countries like Sri Lanka and Australia, the authorities are working to uncover further details in the case and dismantle the smuggling network.
