South 24 Parganas, 9 January (H.S.):
People are terrified after tiger footprints were found again in Maipith located in Kultali of South 24 Parganas. Tiger footprints were seen on the river bank in Nagenabad of Maipith Baikunthpur Gram Panchayat. Villagers suspect that the wild cat crossed the Makri river from Ajmalmari forest and entered the forest adjoining the area.
When the residents of the area went to the river bank on Thursday morning, they saw tiger footprints there. They informed the Forest Department and the police. Earlier, a tiger had entered the Kishori Mohanpur area of Maipith. There is now tiger terror in the forest adjoining Nagenabad, five-six kilometers north from there. Villagers claimed that there is a tiger in the area. On information, Ranger Shubhayu Saha reached the spot along with ADFO Anurag Chaudhary. The work of encircling the forest with a net has been started. The forest department is working hard to prevent tigers from entering the area.
