Kolkata, 9 January (H.S.): In an effort to ease the tension between the state government and medical professionals following the RG Kar Medical College controversy, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will engage in a dialogue with doctors. The event is scheduled for February 24 at the Dhanadhanya auditorium in Alipore, Kolkata. Organized by the West Bengal State Grievance Redressal Cell, the meeting aims to address the grievances and suggestions of medical professionals.

Junior doctors from RG Kar Medical College recently protested against the state government, with some even demanding the Chief Minister’s resignation. The protest ended only after a Supreme Court directive, following which the striking doctors returned to work. The situation created a strained relationship between the state government and the medical community.

Dr. Saurabh Dutta, Chairman of the West Bengal State Grievance Redressal Cell, announced during a press conference on Thursday evening that the Chief Minister will use this dialogue to understand the doctors' concerns and seek solutions. The program has been titled Healthcare is Another Name for Service.

The meeting will see participation from principals, superintendents, faculty members, junior doctors, and medical students from all medical colleges across the state. Additionally, doctors and healthcare workers from district and block-level hospitals have also been invited. Significantly, protest leaders from RG Kar Medical College, such as Dr. Aniket Mahato and Dr. Debashis Halder, have also been invited to the dialogue. As of now, the protesting doctors have not officially responded to the invitation.
