Kolkata, 9 January (H.S.):The performance of West Bengal MPs during the Winter Session of Parliament reveals that BJP MPs were the most active in questioning the central government. Trinamool Congress (TMC) raised questions too but fell behind BJP in overall performance.
The session, held from November 25 to December 20, saw 20 sittings in Lok Sabha and 19 in Rajya Sabha. Among Rajya Sabha MPs from Bengal, BJP's Shamik Bhattacharya asked the highest number of questions—32. TMC's Derek O'Brien, Saket Gokhale, and Nadimul Haque followed with 31 questions each.

Some MPs Remained Silent
Three TMC Rajya Sabha MPs—Subrata Bakshi, Mamatabala Thakur, and Ritabrata Banerjee—did not ask any questions. Ritabrata explained that since he took his oath on December 16, he could participate in the session for only five days, missing the deadline to submit questions.

Better Performance by BJP in Lok Sabha
Among the 42 Lok Sabha MPs from Bengal, BJP's Khagen Murmu led with 24 questions, followed by TMC's Saugata Roy with 23. BJP's Jayanta Roy and TMC's Kirti Azad tied for third place with 22 questions each.

15 TMC MPs Did Not Ask Any Questions
Fifteen TMC Lok Sabha MPs, including senior leaders Sudip Bandyopadhyay and Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, did not raise a single question. Kakoli stated that she often chairs sessions as Deputy Speaker and prioritizes giving opportunities to new MPs.

BJP Criticizes TMC
BJP MP Shamik Bhattacharya remarked, TMC is not accustomed to asking fact-based questions. They focus on criticizing the central government outside Parliament but fall behind when it comes to asking questions during sessions.
