Kolkata, 8 January (H.S.): The West Bengal government has initiated a process to identify suspicious accounts in all cooperative banks across the state. The banks have been directed to submit comprehensive account details by January 15.

This decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Panchayat Minister Pradip Majumdar. It was decided that accounts with no transactions for a long time or those with significant monetary transactions will be identified and necessary action will be taken.Directive from the Chief MinisterChief Minister Mamata Banerjee recently expressed concerns about black money being stashed in cooperative banks during an administrative meeting. She directed officials to investigate these accounts and recover unaccounted funds. Following her orders, all cooperative banks have been asked to submit details of major financial transactions over the last 22 months.Focus on Suspicious AccountsPanchayat Minister Pradip Majumdar stated, All banks have been asked to provide account-related information by January 15. We will assess how many accounts have seen suspicious transactions in the last few months and how many have remained inactive for a long time. He also highlighted the critical role of cooperative banks in implementing state-run schemes, emphasizing the need for transparency.KYC Made MandatoryThe government has made it mandatory for all cooperative bank account holders to complete their Know Your Customer (KYC) process. Banks have also been asked to report the number of accounts without KYC. Additionally, accounts lacking Aadhaar verification and KYC must complete the process by February 15.
