Jaunpur, 18 September (H.S.): Sonu Gupta (35),

resident of Olandganj of Nagar Kotwali police station area, died due to

electric shock while repairing the lights of Ganesh Pandal on Wednesday.

Angered by this, the family members of the deceased stopped the idol going for

immersion in Olandganj market on Tuesday night and demonstrated against the

committee people. After the intervention of the police, the matter calmed down

and the idol could go for immersion. The deceased Sonu Gupta was a resident of

Olandganj market.

His wife Khushboo alleged that the idol of Lord Ganesha was

installed by a committee in Parmanaspur. Last Wednesday, some people of the

committee reached his house and took Sonu on the pretext of fixing the stage.

Sonu was sleeping at his home. The committee people forced him to fix the

lights on the pandal, whereas he did not know how to use light. While fixing

the light, he got an electric shock and fell to the ground. The committee

people immediately took him to the district hospital where the doctors declared

him dead. On Tuesday night, when the committee members came out with musical

instruments to immerse the idol, the angry family members and nearby people

stopped the idol and started protesting. Police also arrived on information.

After an hour-long uproar, the police stopped the DJ being used in the

immersion rally and sent the idol for immersion.Khushboo alleged that the police was forcing

her to compromise. On getting information in this regard on Wednesday, City

Kotwal Mithilesh Mishra said that the family had protested against playing DJ.

The DJ was stopped and the idol was immersed. The talk of pressure for

compromise is wrong. The entire matter is being investigated. The deceased has

four children, including elder daughter Kajal (15), second daughter Sandhya

(10), Anshu (9) and a two-year old newborn.
