Guwahati, 19 September (HS): Red stickers have been put up in Pargoma of Kachutli in Sonapur. 'Protected Land Under Land Bank' is written on these stickers. These stickers have been put up by Kamrup Metropolitan District Magistrate.

The houses built at the places where this stickers have been put up will be vacated by the administration soon. The government is taking possession of government land under the land bank in every district of the state. According to the new rule, vacant government land will come under the government's land bank. Houses built on government land without any papers or permission will be demolished.

The administration of the respective districts will demolish any house built on any type of protected land, even if the land has been given a term lease. Under this, the government has already vacated forest land, tribal land, green land, wetland etc. Last year, the government demolished many houses built on wetlands in Silshanko Bill of Guwahati. However, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that compensation will be given to the people removed from there.

It is noteworthy that let alone the entire state, large buildings have been built on thousands of acres of wetlands, greenlands, forest lands etc. in the middle and around the capital city of Guwahati. Many protected lands were also converted into the free zones by the previous governments. It will be interesting to see whether this government changes the decision of the previous governments or not.
