Mumbai, 29 Dec (HS): Three sanitary workers died

while five fell ill while cleaning a septic tank of a company in Maharashtra’s

Sangli district. The five have been hospitalised and an enquiry into the

incident has been initiated.

The incident occurred when three sanitary workers

died of suffocation while cleaning septic tank of Bombay Rayon Company in

Ishwarpur on Pune-Bengaluru Highway. Five other workers had to be rushed to a

hospital.

Ishwarpur Police Inspector Somnath Wagh said that

that the three sanitary workers who entered the septic tank fell unconscious.

The other five entered to enquire about the three and informed the company officials

as the three did not respond. The company officials immediately informed the

police and Fire Brigade. All the workers were taken to a hospital, where

doctors declared three of them dead. The deceased have been named as Vishal

Subhash Jadhav (35), Sachin Tanaji Jadhav (39), and Sagar Rangrao Mali (35).

Out of the five others the condition of Mahadev Ramchandra Kadam (46)

deteriorated and was referred to a Government Hospital in Kolhapur for further

treatment. Sunil Anand Pawar (29),

Keshav Anand Salunkhe (45), Hemant Shankar Dhankawde (27), and Vishal Maruti

Chougule (29) are being treated in a private hospital.

Police have registered a case of negligence against

the company and are investigating further.
