Samik Bhattacharya slams Trinamool over violence and law & order in Bengal

Kolkata, 29 December (H.S.): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) West Bengal President and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Samik Bhattacharya on Sunday addressed media at BJP Salt Lake office, raising concerns over the alleged serious political, social, and law-and-order issues in the state.

During his interaction with media, Bhattacharya announced that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be visiting West Bengal shortly. He said that Shah’s visit will include a series of important political and organizational meetings, aimed at strengthening the party’s structure and reviewing the prevailing situation in the state.

Taking a sharp dig at the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), Bhattacharya alleged that the state has been witnessing widespread violence, for which he squarely blamed the Trinamool leadership. He claimed that, in many cases, members of the Muslim community are both involved in and affected by the violence, and asserted that the victims’ families themselves have held the Trinamool Congress responsible.

“The people on the ground are saying openly that Trinamool Congress is behind the violence. Victims’ families have admitted this,” Bhattacharya said.

The BJP leader further alleged that Humayun Kabir’s party is effectively acting as a “Plan B” for the Trinamool Congress. According to him, if the ruling party fails to influence election outcomes through alleged rigging, it resorts to alternative political forces to further its agenda.

Bhattacharya accused the Trinamool Congress of encouraging elements that, he claimed, are working with the intent of changing the political and social character of West Bengal. He warned that such forces pose a grave threat to democracy, social harmony, and the constitutional framework of the state.

“The people of Bengal are witnessing how Trinamool Congress is destroying law and order for its own political survival,” he said, adding that the BJP would continue to expose these issues at every level.

He also reiterated that the BJP remains committed to restoring peace, ensuring free and fair elections, and safeguarding democratic values in West Bengal.

There was no immediate response from the Trinamool Congress to the allegations made by the BJP state president.

The BJP’s state media department said the party will intensify its political and organizational activities in the coming days, particularly in view of the upcoming electoral and political developments in West Bengal.
