Three killed in elephant attack in Sonitpur


Sonitpur (Assam), 27 April (HS). Three persons, including two forest workers and a local man, were killed in a wild elephant attack in Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district on Saturday morning.

According to details of the incident given by the police today, a wild elephant had attacked a man named Jatan Tanti in the early hours of Saturday. When the deceased went out for work in the morning, he was attacked by a wild elephant that stopped near his house in a tea garden. The wild elephant was taking shelter in the middle of a private tea garden in Dhiramajuli area. Local Shingri police, Dhekiajuli and forest personnel from Amaribari forest offices reached the spot. Started trying to drive away the elephant from the middle of the village.

The elephant started chasing the forest personnel. Both the forest guards tried to escape, but were killed in the elephant attack. The deceased have been identified as local villager Jatan Tanti (60), forest worker Kuleshwar Bodo (45) and Biren Rabha (50). The three bodies were recovered by the police and sent to Tezpur Medical College Hospital for postmortem.
