Ghaziabad,
21 Dec (HS): According to authorities, a youth reportedly shot and killed a man
suspected of killing his uncle 18 years ago at the Olympic trisection in the
Muradnagar neighborhood before surrendering to a nearby police station. Imran,
a 49-year-old milk merchant from Kachchi Sarai Basti, was convicted of murder
and sentenced to life in prison by the district court in 2007. He later
appealed to the High Court and has been on bail since 2017. According to
authorities, the teen reportedly killed Imran on Saturday to revenge his
uncle's murder.
Imran
was seated at a friend's bicycle business in the Olympic trisection market when
the adolescent approached and reportedly shot three bullets at him. The
gunshots struck Imran in the chest, forcing him to fall, according to
authorities.
Local
shopkeepers brought him to a neighborhood health clinic, where physicians
pronounced him dead. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination,
police said. Following
the event, outraged retailers shut down the market, accusing authorities of
weak security precautions. Residents and shopkeepers are afraid following the
tragedy, according to Danish Hazi, who took part in the demonstration.
Aside
from the youngster, four others -- Yasir, Sabir, Arfaz, and Kaif -- have been
charged in the incident. Police are investigating the participation of the
other accused and validating the primary accused's age. DCP (Rural) Surendra
Nath Tiwari said that more police personnel have been deployed in the area to
prevent any untoward incidents.
