Guwahati, April 27 (HS). Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge said that Congress is fighting to protect democracy and the Constitution of the country. Kharge reached Guwahati on Saturday with a one-day programme. He addressed a press conference at a local private hotel in Barjhar, Guwahati.

The Congress President said that Congress has promised to give five justice awards and 25 guarantees to the people. His party claims to fulfill all these promises and guarantees.

Criticizing the Prime Minister, Kharge said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has failed to fulfill the promises made in the last 10 years. Congress has been fighting for inflation, unemployment and development, but BJP has turned its back on these issues. It is doing the politics of polarization and dividing people.

Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the BJP-led government for failing to provide employment to two crore unemployed annually as promised. In this regard, he said that BJP has failed to double the income of farmers and has imposed GST on agriculture and other essential commodities.

Regarding the Lok Sabha elections, he said that this election is very important for the country. This election is not a personal election. Elections are to protect the democracy and constitution of the country. ,

Taking aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kharge said that Modi always talks about sabka saath, sabka vikas, but development is far away.

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) in-charge Jitendra Singh, Rajya Sabha MP Dr Nasir Hussain, Congress President Bhupen Bora, Debabrata Saikia and Guwahati candidate Mira Barthakur were also present at the press conference.

It may be noted that immediately after addressing the press conference, the Congress National President reached Phulguri in Sarbhog, Bhawanipur this afternoon to attend an election meeting in support of party candidate Dweep Bayan from Barpeta constituency. While addressing a huge rally in Barpeta, he made many allegations against the BJP led governments of the Center and the State and made many promises on behalf of the Congress.
