CBI gets time till May 29 to file final chargesheet in land-for-job case

New Delhi, May 9 (HS): Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court has given time to the CBI to file the final chargesheet in the Land-for-job case. Special Judge Vishal Gogane directed to file the chargesheet by May 29.

During the hearing on Thursday, lawyer DP Singh, appearing for CBI, said that the chargesheet is almost ready and it may take 15 to 20 days to file the charge sheet. After that the court directed to file the chargesheet by May 29.

On April 30, the court had reprimanded the CBI for delaying filing the chargesheet in this case. Advocate Singh, appearing for CBI, said that the final charge sheet is almost complete but some legal questions are being discussed internally by CBI officials.

On this, the court said that the investigating agency has been taking time for the final chargesheet for three months. The trial is not starting because the final charge sheet has not been filed. The proceedings in the court are at a standstill. Various applications of many accused are pending. After that, the court had ordered the investigating officer of this case, Bikash Chandra Chaurasia and CBI SP Nipun Gupta to appear on the next date along with the case diary.

Today the accused in this case Lalu Yadav, Rabri Devi and Tejashwi Yadav did not appear. They sought exemption from appearing in the court today, which was accepted by the court. The CBI had filed the third supplementary charge sheet in this case on March 6. In the supplementary chargesheet, the CBI has named Bhola Yadav as accused along with two candidates who got the job, Ashok Kumar and Babita. It has been said in the supplementary charge sheet that Bhola Yadav had been the secretary of Lalu Yadav and he used to look after all the work. It was Bhola Yadav who used to give instructions to the officers.

The Land-for-Job scam happened when Lalu Yadav was the Railway Minister. Bhola Yadav is considered to be the mastermind of this scam. It is alleged that when Lalu Yadav was the Railway Minister, he was asked to give land in exchange for job. Bhola Yadav was entrusted with the task of giving land in exchange for job. Bhola Yadav was elected MLA from Bahadurpur seat in the 2015 Bihar Assembly elections. It is noteworthy that in May 2023, CBI had raided 17 locations linked to Lalu Yadav's family in this case.
