Army Chief hails ex-servicemen contribution


New Delhi, May 09 (HS): Army Chief General Manoj Pandey emphasised the invaluable contribution of ex-servicemen in the prosperity of the country. He said that after saying goodbye to military life, his services to the nation do not end, rather his responsibility towards society and nation building changes to another innings. He reiterated the commitment of the Indian Army to provide facilities for them in various areas.

The Army Chief was addressing the summit organized by the Army Welfare Placement Organization at Manekshaw Center in New Delhi on Thursday. The summit witnessed presence of personalities from various walks of life, including seasoned entrepreneurs, business and industry leaders, corporate houses, government and social sector representatives. The objective of the summit was to bring together various stakeholders on a common platform to bridge the gap between enterprise requirements and the core competencies possessed by veterans. The summit helped in strengthening the relationship of the veteran community with industry, PSUs and semi-government organizations.

In his keynote address, Chief of Army Staff General Pandey stressed on the invaluable contribution of veterans to the prosperity of the country and said that the experience of ex-servicemen can be used in many corporate houses. The COAS noted that their services to the nation do not end when they bid goodbye to military life, rather their responsibility towards society and nation building shifts to another innings. He urged everyone to recognize the potential of the words 'Ex-Servicemen, Supernatural Contribution'. He said that the Indian Army has initiated the process of holistic skill certification with the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

This summit was an effort to develop an eco-system for Indian Army veterans. Panelists from across sectors brought forward insightful perspectives on new pathways, capabilities, challenges and the entire landscape of initiatives for veterans in new roles. Veterans who have established themselves in second careers shared their experiences and success stories. The topics discussed in the conference were harnessing the potential and experience of veterans, skills required to meet the needs of public and private sector, unveiling opportunities for veterans in India's growth story, with an aim to empower veterans to play a vital role in nation building. The aim was to promote coordination between veterans and various sectors.
