New Delhi, 4 December (H.S.): Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced on Wednesday that Indian Railways gives a total subsidy of ₹56,993 crore to all class passengers every year, which accounts for 46 percent discount on every ticket.
He mentioned that the Government of India is committed to providing affordable rail services to its citizens and is dedicated to the welfare of the poor. He also stated that the focus is not only on increasing the number of First AC, Second AC, and Third AC coaches, but also on adding more general coaches to cater to the needs of every citizen.
As part of this effort, one thousand general coaches will be added by the end of December this year, and a program for special production of 10 thousand general coaches has been initiated.
