Guwahati, 4 December (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that now eating beef is banned in hotels, restaurants and public places in Assam. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, he said that earlier eating beef was banned within a radius of five kilometers of temples. Now this radius has been extended further.
The Chief Minister said that three years ago, laws banning cow slaughter were implemented in Assam, in which the government has got a lot of success. In view of this success, the government has taken a step forward and banned eating beef in public places. The Chief Minister said that there is a provision of punishment for this. Even those who violate it can be jailed.
