Guwahati, 13 November (HS): Total 72.83 % voting has been done till 5 pm in the assembly by-election going on in Assam on Wednesday. Of these, 69.08 % voting took place in Bongaigaon, 72.40 % in Dholai, 73.70 % in Bihali, 71.50 % in Sidli and 78.70 % in Samguri. 1078 polling stations were arranged for 9,09,057 voters.
80.91 % votes were cast in Gambegar constituency of Meghalaya till 5 pm. Voting was completely peaceful in the state.
There were reports of election violence at many places in Samaguri assembly constituency. An attempt was made to attack BJP candidate Dipluranjan Sharma in Khalihari. Allegedly two Congress workers tried to attack Dipluranjan Sharma. For this, charges were filed against Congress workers Harun Rashid and Merajul Haque. BJP candidate Dipluranjan Sharma strongly criticized MP Rokibul Hussain for creating violence in Assam politics.
Meanwhile, MP Rokibul Hussain's convoy was also said to be attacked in Samaguri constituency. A journalist's vehicle was also damaged in the attack. The attackers also raised slogans against Rokibul Hussain. However, voting remained peaceful in other areas.
