Guwahati, 8 October (HS): Along with the whole country, Durga Puja is being celebrated with great pomp in Assam. In some pandals of Guwahati, the puja has been inaugurated after Mahalaya. Among these, Pandu College Gate Sanatan Devalaya of Maligaon is notable.

Like every year, Shardiya Durga Puja have been organized in Sanatan Devalaya. The puja has been inaugurated with a spiritual auspicious ceremony. The Durga idol has unveiled in the presence of Swami Madhavanand Maharaj of Art of Living, former Vice Chancellor of Rabindranath University Dr. Amalendu Chakraborty, former Principal of Pandu College Biwas Das Purkayastha, social worker Biwas Majumdar and other prominent personalities of the area.

It is worth mentioning that women working in different fields of society and elderly women are honoured every day by Sanatan Devalaya. Its purpose is that the festival of Navratri is a symbol of respect for women. This festival not only worships the idol of the goddess, but also gives the message of respecting every woman, mother, sister, daughter.

On this holy festival of Durga Puja, every evening, local artists are giving the message of praise of Maa Durga through devotional songs and cultural programmes, which is spreading spiritual enthusiasm among the audience. On this occasion, a special dance drama was presented, in which a special incident of treatment at Kolkata RG Medical College was depicted. This year the budget of the puja is around ₹12 lakh. The idol has been created by Nirmal Pal, a sculptor from Guwahati, and the mandap has been decorated by Sanjeev.

There is also a provision for distribution of prasad to the devotees every day. Kumari Puja is scheduled on Thursday Saptami and Murti Samarpan Day is scheduled on Dashami Sunday. The puja here is organised by about five thousand local families, where the Sanatan Devalaya continues to preserve a special local tradition. The event is being organised following all the rules directed by the government and maintaining security through volunteers and CCTV cameras.
