Chandigarh, 8 October (HS): The Bharatiya Janata Party has created history in Haryana by winning 48 seats out of 90 seats in the state. Despite all the claims and exit poll reports, the Congress failed to grab up to its hopes.

This was the first time when there was a direct contest between Congress and BJP on most of the seats in the state. On Tuesday morning, counting of votes started at 8 am in 93 counting centers set up for 90 constituencies of the state. Congress took lead on 70 seats in the counting of postal ballots. After this, when the EVMs were opened and after the second phase of counting of votes in most constituencies, the scene kept changing. According to the report released by the State Election Commission, the Bharatiya Janata Party has won 48 out of 90 seats. In the year 2019, BJP had won 40 seats, while the BJP, which came to power for the first time in the year 2014, won 47 seats. Despite the anti-incumbency wave of ten years, the BJP has broken both the previous records for the third time.

On the other hand, the opposition party Congress has won 37 seats as per the results declared today. In the last election, Congress had won 31 seats. Congress has gained a lead of just six seats. INLD, which has been marginalized for the last 15 years, has won two seats this time. Compared to the last election, INLD has got a lead of one seat. In the 2019 elections, six independent MLAs had won, while in the results declared on Tuesday, independents have won three seats. Bharatiya Janata Party may have formed the government for the third time but in the results declared today, the biggest victory has been registered in the name of Congress. Nuh riots accused and Congress candidate from Ferozepur Jhirka, Maman Khan Engineer, has defeated BJP's Naseem Ahmed by a margin of 98 thousand 441 votes. The victory margin in this election was the lowest in Uchana Kalan seat. Here BJP's Devendra Chaturbhuj Atri has defeated Congress' Brijendra Singh by a margin of 32 votes.

Now Congress will have to sit in opposition again for the next five years. Voting was held on 5 October for 90 assembly seats in the state. Bharatiya Janata Party contested on 89 seats and Congress on 89 seats.

In this election, JJP, BSP, CPI, CPIM and Aam Aadmi Party could not even open their account.
