Six Accused in Fake Call Centre Scam Sent to Three-Day Police Remand


Bhubaneswar, 18 October (H.S.)The Commissionerate Police have remanded six individuals, arrested for operating a fake call centre and defrauding people, to a three-day police custody.

The police obtained permission from the Bhubaneswar court to conduct further investigations. During this remand period, the accused will face intensive interrogation. Additionally, a special team from the Commissionerate Police plans to visit the residences of the accused in Kolkata as part of the ongoing investigation, according to sources.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused were involved in extensive cyber fraud, both domestically and internationally, including deceiving American citizens by falsely offering software products and antivirus services. The scam is believed to have generated over Rs 2 crore.

Authorities are currently examining the suspects’ bank accounts to ascertain the total amount defrauded.

The suspects, all from West Bengal, are described as highly educated individuals who operated the fake call centre from a flat in Kanchan Apartment, Sundarpada.

The police are expected to uncover more details about the scam and the potential involvement of other individuals as the investigation progresses.
