New Delhi, 13 August (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday shared a Sanskrit subhashitam on social media, offering a message of determination, perseverance and hard work as the keys to overcoming adversity and achieving success.

The verse shared by Modi reads: “दैवं पुरुषकारेण यः समर्थः प्रबाधितुम्। न दैवेन विपन्नार्थः पुरुषः सोऽवसीदति॥” The subhashitam is taken from the Ayodhya Kanda of the Ramayana, attributed to Maharishi Valmiki.

The verse appears in the context of Lord Rama’s exile, when Lakshmana becomes deeply angered by the circumstances surrounding the decision. Rather than accepting fate as the sole determinant of events, the verse emphasises the importance of human effort, determination and action in confronting difficult circumstances.

The message conveys that a person who possesses the resolve and perseverance to overcome adverse circumstances through sustained effort does not succumb to setbacks. Instead, such an individual continues striving and ultimately moves towards success.

The meaning shared on the Prime Minister’s X account states that a person who has the determination, tireless perseverance and capacity for sustained effort to turn adverse circumstances in their favour can overcome the challenges of life and is never defeated by obstacles.

The message underlines the importance of self-belief, persistent effort and determination, suggesting that difficult circumstances need not determine the outcome of one’s efforts.
