New Delhi, 13 August (H.S.): The Monsoon Session of Parliament concluded on Thursday amid continued confrontation between the government and the Opposition over student protests and several other contentious issues. The Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die shortly after proceedings began, while the Rajya Sabha witnessed a noisy and turbulent session.

The Monsoon Session, which commenced on July 20, was scheduled to conclude on August 13. The session witnessed repeated disruptions in both Houses, with the government and Opposition remaining divided over the issues to be taken up for discussion.

On the final day, proceedings in the Lok Sabha were disrupted by protests. The House was subsequently adjourned sine die, formally bringing its proceedings for the Monsoon Session to an end.

The Rajya Sabha also witnessed considerable uproar, with Opposition members raising various issues and demanding answers from the government. The disruptions overshadowed the proceedings as the session reached its conclusion.

The central political dispute during the session revolved around the Opposition’s demand for a discussion on the NEET examination controversy and the alleged police action against students protesting over the issue. The Opposition also raised allegations concerning the reported theft of offerings at the Ram temple in Ayodhya and sought statements from senior government leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The government maintained that it was ready for a detailed discussion on the students’ agitation and related matters. Home Minister Amit Shah had offered to participate in the debate and respond to questions raised by Opposition members.

On Wednesday,Amit Shah wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla reiterating the government’s willingness to hold a detailed discussion on the issue. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also accused the Opposition of avoiding a debate despite the government’s stated readiness to respond to its questions.

The session also saw the passage and introduction of several pieces of legislation, while a number of parliamentary proceedings were affected by repeated disruptions.

The conclusion of the Monsoon Session marks the end of several weeks of political confrontation in Parliament, with the government and Opposition remaining sharply divided over the student protests, NEET-related allegations and other issues raised during the session.
